REMOVE NOT THE ANCIENT LANDMARK

REMOVE NOT THE ANCIENT LANDMARK
(Deuteronomy 19:14; Proverbs 22:28; Deuteronomy 23:10)

INTRODUCTION
A landmark is the monumental used to divide portions of land bequeathed to the inheritors of such land. In the land of Israel, fields were not marked by fences but boundaries were indicated by heaps of small stones, by a ridge, by posts or single large rocks set up at certain distances. Some landmarks even had curses written on them for those who would remove them.
Landmarks are needed to prevent trespasses. In other words, landmarks are the good legacies and heritage handed down by our heroes and heroines of faith who had departed.

1. MAINTAINING OUR FATHERS’ LANDMARK: THE RECHABITES’ EXAMPLE
(Jeremiah 35)
It is very expedient for every born again Christian to follow the example of the sons of Rechab in the bible. They all followed the instructions given to them by their fathers. They never erred but were committed to their course. They laid down good examples for us to emulate in this our dispensation. They harkened and obeyed the instructions given by their father. What a good example for us to emulate!

2. WALKING WITH GOD IN THE OLD PATHS
§  We may be tempted to ask ourselves, “How should we, in the 21st Century be asked to walk with God in the old paths? There is one basic truth God, God neither grows old nor changes His attributes, characters and standards. He remains unchanged and unchangeable.
§  Another fact is that we, in the 21st Century cannot walk uprightly with God without learning from those who had gone before, those who had walked successfully with God and made their impact in their own time. Those who were pacesetters by walking with God and leaving behind an enviable history.

3.  IN THE OLD PATHS
       (Jeremiah 6:16)
The only way that can guarantee you success in this world and eternal life is the old path. Departing from it is an invitation to perdition. It assures you of SECURITY, PROTECTION and SATISFACTION. The reaction of many new generation believers to the call in the above verse is nothing different from that of Israelites. The trend must change those who say we have nothing to do with old time religion and yet talk about the blessing of Abraham to be claimed by believers would have to reconsider their stance.
Nobody is disputing the fact that we are in a new age but that does not change God’s word neither does it change Him in all His attributes. He has not lowered His standard of holiness, purity, faith in Him, His word and His son Jesus Christ.

4.  CASE STUDIES OF PROJENITORS OF THE ANCIENT LANDMARK
a)    Enoch:   (Genesis 5:22-24)
b)    Noah:    (Genesis 6:9-13)
c)    Abraham:  (Genesis 12:1-4)

4.   WHAT THEY HAD IN COMMON WITH US
a)    They were human beings like us, having father and mother.
b)    They all lived among sinners of their time.
c)    Their God is the same God we serve today.
d)    They lived on earth, not in heaven.
e)    They had their will power to choose whatever they liked.
f)      They did not see God in physical appearance or form.
g)    They only believed what God told them.

         CONCLUSION

Our God is a God of standard; He will never lower His standard no matter what happens. God is an ancient God and He will remain the same and He wants His children to remain in His will. The world may change but God never changes. His standard, His legacies, His expectations, His law, His position never change.
This church, GOFAMINT, has many legacies capable of taking us to heaven. We must love them, maintain them and continue to cherish them. When we do this, it will earn us the respect of being Christians and it will prepare us for heaven which is our ultimate home.
