NEW HEAVEN AND
NEW EARTH
(Revelation 21:1-27)
INTRODUCTION
The New
Heaven and New Earth will come into place after The Great White Throne Judgement
where the sinners would have been condemned to hell which is a place of
banishment from the presence of God would have taken place. Therefore, the
teaching will be systematically and expositorily studied for in-depth
understanding of everybody.
1.
OLD HEAVEN AND OLD EARTH (Genesis 1:1)
The old
earth which is the present evil earth has passed through some stages in the
past i.e. Cursed (Gen. 1:17; Destroyed – Gen 7:24; Ii Pet 2:5; Called evil – Gen 1:4 and yet it will undergo more stages in the
near future like The Great Tribulation
(Matt 24:35). Millennial Age (Rev
20:4) and Fire (II Peter 3:10; Matt
24:35).

THE PRESENT HEAVEN
The three heavens of which the Bible speaks:
(i)
First Heaven: This
refers to the atmospheric heaven of the birds and clouds (Deut 7:13). This is also the operational headquarters of Satan (Eph 2:2; 6:12).
(ii)
The Second Heaven:
It is that of the stars and planets (Genesis
1:16-17; Deut 17:3). It will undergo many changes – Psalm 102:25-26; Isaiah 51:6; Revelation 21:1; Revelation 20:11).
(iii)
The Third Heaven:
The abode of the Triune God – (II
Corinthians 12:1-9; 5:2, 8; Philippians 1:23).

THE NEW HEAVEN (Revelation 21:1,3)
i.
“A city … whose builders and makers is God” (Hebrews 11:10)
ii.
It shall be populated with nations (Revelation
21:24-26)
iii.
Those who do not rebel with Satan after the millennium and those
justified in The Great White Throne Judgement will live on earth naturally for
ever (Isaiah 66:22-24; Rev 21:3-4)
iv.
No more sea (Revelation 21:1;
22:1-3)
v.
New Jerusalem will be there (Revelation
21:2; 22:24-26)
4. NEW
JERUSALEM (Revelation 21:2, 10)
i. It was prepared for Christ
Himself (John 14:1-3; 21:2-10)
ii. It has many names:
(a) New Jerusalem (Revelation 3:12; 21:2).
(b) Holy
City (Revelation 21:2,
22:19)
(c) The Bride of the Lamb (Revelation 21:2, 19-21).
(d) The Tabernacle of God (Rev 13:6; 15:5;
21:3).
(e) Holy
Jerusalem
(Revelation 21:10).
(f) Heavenly Jerusalem (Heb. 12:22-23).
(g) My
Father’s House (John 14:1-3)

IT WILL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN:
It will descend from heaven and be situated on
New Earth according to Rvelation 3:12;
21:2, 9-10, 24-26, 21:1-5.
5. IT WILL BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO BEHOLD: There is no building or
house in the world that can
be compared to it.
6. IT IS HAVING THE GLORY OF GOD: The beautiful place that we
are talking about has
the glory of the Almighty
God.
7. THE INCOMPARABLE ILLUMINATION: The light is like a stone
most precious as in
Revelation 21:11b.
8. THE MEASUREMENT OF THE CITY: The length, breath and height of the city is the
Same -12,000 furlongs (revelation 21:16). It is made of gold (Revelation
21:16).

THE MEASUREMENT OF THE WALL: The wall of the city is 144 cubits, made of
Jasper according to Revelation 21:18.
10. THE FOUNDATION OF THE WALL: The foundations of the wall of the city are
garnished with all manners of precious stones (12 in all and 12 foundations) –Rev. 21:19-20 with the names of
the Twelve Apostles written on the Twelve Foundations.
11. THE GATES OF THE CITY: The Twelve Gates with three on each wall and Twelve
Angels at the gates and on each gate the names of the Twelve Tribes of the
children of Israel (Revelation 21:12).
12. THE INHABITANTS OF THE CITY:
(a) The
nations of them which are saved (Rev 21:24; Rom 5:1)
(b) The home of the Redeemed (Heb 11:10, 16;
13:14).
(c) Only they which are written in the Lamb’s Book
of Life (Revelation 21:24, 27).
(d) Those living holy lives (Heb 12:14; I Pet
1:15-16).
(e) Those who are looking
forward to enter the city (Hebrews 13:14; Rev 22:20).
13. THOSE WHO WILL BE OUTSIDE THE CITY:
(Revelation 21:8).
(a) The fearful –These
are the people who are afraid to confess Christ or identify
themselves with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
(b) Unbelievers – These are those who to
acknowledge the redemption offered by the
blood of Christ.
(c) Abominable – All that are morally,
religiously and physically filthy (Revelation
17:4-5; 21:24; Titus 1:16).
(d)
Murderers: All those who take human lives to satisfy their
selfish ends.
(e) Fornicators – All
those who commit immoral dealings with the opposite sex outside
true matrimony.
(f)
Sorcerers – These are people who practice witchcraft, spiritism, devil worship
and other forms of sorcery (Deut. 18:10-12).
(g)
Idolaters – All worshippers of other gods like money, fame, prestige,
ideologies, hero-worship, mass media, social media and a host of others (modern
god for modern man).
(h)
All liars Of every degree, kind and character without exception.
(i)
Death – I Corinthians 15:26.
(j)
Hades – Revelation 20:14 (This is the detention or confinement for rejecters
of Christ Jesus where they are being tormented after physical death until the
Great White Throne Judgement. (Luke 16:23; Revelation 20:13).
CONCLUSION
And He that sat upon the throne said “Behold,
I make all things new. And He said unto me, write, for these words are true and
faithful” –Revelation 21:5.
“If ye know all these things, happy (blessed) are
ye if ye do them”
– John 13:17.
